"A Hungry Dog Is An Obedient Dog"—'Bar Rescue' Host Says Hunger Should Be Used To Motivate Restaurant Staff

When the pandemic started to shut everything down, one of the first things to go were restaurant jobs. Lots of people ended up on unemployment, or just completely ruined because they were not eligible—many restaurant workers are undocumented. Some state governments did their best to push people off unemployment and force them back to work, even though pandemic conditions have not necessarily gotten less dangerous. And frankly, working in a restaurant is really hard, really underpaid, and really puts you in line of fire for the most entitled people on earth.

Fox News and other right-wing media operations are openly campaigning against social assistance like unemployment or any other kind of financial support for workers, because they want to force them to take any job they can get at dirt wages.

Bar Rescue's Jon Taffer' is contributing with a particularly unhinged interview that's gone viral after he was interview on Thursday by Laura Ingraham. Taffer doesn't think that these jobs should be better paid—he thinks that people should be incentivized by hunger. Like dogs.

"We're incentivizing people to stay home," Taffer said.

Laura Ingraham: "What if we just cut off the unemployment? Hunger is a pretty powerful thing."

"I have a friend in the military who trains military dogs," he said. "They only feed a military dog at night, because a hungry dog is an obedient dog. Well, if we are not causing people to be hungry to work then we're providing them all the meals they need sitting at home." He went on to suggest unemployment assistance should instead be given to employers to somehow incentivize people to work.

That's pretty disgusting, even for Fox News. I bet a lot of people would be pretty horrified to hear about the dog thing, too. As a reminder, we're talking about forcing people to be hungry, which is much much worse.
